Our Beers

The tropical climate of North Queensland has always been associated with cold thirst quenching beer. At the Townsville Brewing Co. we wanted to go a step further. Not only do we want to brew fine, satisfying lagers, but we also want to expose our customers to the large range of beer styles that exist throughout the world.

Our beers are brewed to cater for a wide and varied palate, from the light easy drinking lagers to the challenging and flavoursome ales and stouts. We spare no expense in sourcing our raw materials for our beers, some of our premium hops are imported from Germany, the Czech Republic and England. Our yeasts are sourced from the US and are propagated in house before fermentation. Australian malt provides the myriad of sugars and colours that contribute to the flavour and colour of our beers.

All our beers have been awarded medals of various degrees over the past two years at the Australian International Beer Awards. To-date we have collected up to 17 different medals for our beers at the various Australian beer Awards. Check out our “News Section” to see the latest results.

Our success has not been confined to the Asia-Pacific region, in 2002 “Flanagan’s Dry Irish Stout” was awarded a Bronze Medal for its category at the Brewing Industry International Awards in London, England. We were the only Australian brewery to win a medal at this prestigious brewing competition and faced competition from some of the top European and North American breweries.

 

Our Regular Beers

Townville Bitter – Premium light lager – 3.0% alcohol

This premium light lager is brewed with a blend of three Australian malts and specially imported Saaz hops. Crisp and dry, this perfectly balanced lager will suit all tastes. Also available in 330 ml bottle.

Lager Lout – Premium lager – 4.7% alcohol

This pale-golden lager is brewed in the European style with distinct floral aromas from the German hops added late in the boil. With a medium bitterness this full-strength lager is extremely satisfying and clean.

Burdekin Gold – Wheat beer – 4.2% alcohol

Our Burdekin Gold Wheat Beer is brewed with a blend of malted wheat, malted barley and a combination of Australian and European hops. Wheat beers are well known for their “thirst-quenching” abilities and satisfying taste. We ferment this beer with our house ale yeast, which results in a rich and fruity beer.

Digger’s – Pale ale – 4.6%

Digger’s Pale Ale is brewed with a special blend of English malts that deliver a full- bodied beer with subtle biscuity notes and a refreshing dry hoppy bitterness. Generous late additions of Kent Goldings hops gives this pale ale a powerful fresh, floral aroma.

Ned’s Red – Red ale – 4.4%

Brewed with five different malts, Ned’s Red is a rich and creamy Irish-style red ale. Chocolate and crystal malts combine to give this ale a complex nutty and toffee flavour.

Flanagan’s – Dry Irish Stout – 4.4%

Award PicFlanagan’s stout is luxuriously smooth with a distinct-hop bitterness that balances the chocolate / espresso flavours arising from the generous portions of roast barley. See for yourself why some of the worlds top brewers judged this stout to be Number Three in the world!!

Our Seasonal Beers

As well as our regular six beers we brew seasonal / one-off beers every now and then. Here is a sample of some of our past favourites:

Belgian Blonde – Belgian Ale – 4.7%

This naturally cloudy Belgian Ale is brewed with coriander and ginger, which results in complex spicy and fruity aromas. Crisp and light with a very different flavour.

Annand-Ale Kolch – German Ale – 4.7%

Our Kolsch Ale is a light golden German ale brewed with a blend of pale, Munich and wheat malts. It has a slight fruity-estery aroma profile with a delicate round mouth feel and a dry finish.

Eve’s Apple Wheat – Apple flavoured wheat beer – 4.2%

Eve’s Apple Wheat is a sparkling-gold wheat beer that has subtle apple and “pear-drop” flavours that combine well with the refreshing character of the wheat to finish clean and crisp.

Chilli Beer – Chilli flavoured lager – 4.5%

Our chilli beer is a malty Australian lager infused with Jalapeno chillies. At 4.5% alcohol by volume the flavour is subtle yet definitely hot……for all you “chilli heads!”

Brauhaus lager – Octoberfest lager – 4.5%

Brewed to celebrate Octoberfest with a blend of lager and Vienna malts, our Octoberfest lager exhibits an elegant flavour and bitterness.

Elliots Brown Ale – Brown Ale – 4.8%

This beer was brewed in memory of S.G. Elliot, the original brewmaster of one of Townsvilles original breweries. Dark and malty, this beer is made with pale malt, crystal, wheat, munich and roast barley.
